The Limassol Chamber was established, in its current form,
in 1962 and since then has played a leading role in the economic
development of the district of Limassol. Currently, there are over
750 members (600 local and 150 International companies) registered
with the Limassol Chamber.
Limassol the second largest city of the island is situated on the
south west part of Cyprus and it's an important seaport, industrial,
tourist, international company and port of registry centre. The
modern economic development of the city started at the beginning
of the twentieth century with the creation of what it's called the
traditional industry of the area, the wine and spirit industry.
Limassol is the "city of fun" as it's called in Cyprus
and it is the home of the world famous wine festival, a ten-day
event in September, where you can mingle with the crowds in the
beautifully decorated Municipal Gardens to sample our wines which
flow freely during the event. Limassol is also the home of the Carnival
parade in Spring, and the hundreds of parties around the city where
an exhilarating atmosphere is created during the week long celebrations.
If you decide to visit us during the hot nights of July and August,
Limassol still offers you amongst other pleasures, the International
Dance Festival, at the Garden Theatre, or the possibility to watch
a play, a Greek drama or a concert at the ancient theatre of Curium.
It is not by chance the fact that Limassol has most of five and
four star hotels on the island providing unforgettable experience
to the business and pleasure traveller. We can also offer budget
hotel apartments, fully serviced, and hotels to the budget conscious
traveller. Limassol's hotels are offering state of the art conference
facilities, value for money and the right infrastructure for your
business meetings. That is why we hosted over 50% of the international
conferences for 1994. Limassol's port serves more than 700,000 people
a year. The majority of those visitors are tourists who want to
combine a visit to Cyprus with a three-day, five-day or longer cruises
to Egypt, the Holy Land or the Greek islands.
Cyprus has worked its way through many obstacles and over the last
years was developed to a respectable international company and shipping
centre. Limassol is the home of two of the worlds' largest five
Shipmanagement companies and it is currently hosting over 90% of
the shipping industry and over 55% of the international companies
that operate out of fully fledged offices.
The recent improvements of the ports infrastucture with more than
double the loading and unloading capacity as well as the significant
upgrading of the superstructure to enable service to the fourth
generation container ships, combined with the strategic location
of the port provides a perfect solution to your shipping needs.
Limassol is the home of all the wineries which made Cyprus famous
for its exceptionally good wine. Wine making in Cyprus runs deep
into the island's history, as deep as the roots of the vine grow
into the earth, and the history of the wine is parallel with the
history of the island with all its fortunes and misfortunes.
Citrus growing in Limassol started in the 1930's, when thousands
of acres of land reclaimed from the mashy lands adjoining the Akrotiri
Salt Lake. Few young enterprising men drained, cleaned and reclaimed
the land West of Limassol which later turned to a productive citrus
and vine growing area. Today the area produces a large selection
of citrus which are exported to many European markets.
Limassol has two industrial estates as well as a third one on the
way, expected to be operational by the end of 1999, which are housing
the local light industry. Considerable industrial activity has been
developed in industrial zones as well. A large number of them are
serving the local needs but many of those industrial units are exporting
most of their production to other countries.
If you are planning your next holiday, Limassol could very easily
become your next tourist destination because we can offer you an
unforgettable experience any season you might choose to visit us.
You can choose from a variety of our superior hotels with excellent
service and facilities, combined with the Limassolian hospitality
and easy access to the whole island, you can have a great holiday.

top prices for rent, high taxes and your labour costs are going
through the roof. If your business partners are located in the Middle
East, Far East, North Africa or the CIS countries, Limassol could
