| About Nicosia:
Nicosia
is located in the center of the island of Cyprus (northeast corner
of the Mediterranean), which has a rich history dating back
to the Bronze Age. It became the capital of the island in the 11th
century A.D. It is the biggest city of the country with nearly
260.000 inhabitants, almost one third of the total population.
Today, Nicosia is a modern and cosmopolitan business and cultural
center. Besides the Government offices and the foreign diplomatic
and other missions, the capital hosts all the financial institutions,
trade fairs, the Cyprus Stock Exchange, the Conference Center,
etc.
There are three industrial estates in Nicosia, which have an easy
access to the island’s road system, the airport and the seaports
and are in proximity to sources of skilled labour and raw materials.
Moreover, eighteen Industrial Zones (the land is privately owned),
are scattered all over the Nicosia area, providing investors with
the opportunity to exploit other advantages, such as easy access
to raw materials, to other related industries etc.
The city has proved an ideal center for investors and the perfect
place for establishing their businesses.
About the Nicosia Chamber:
The Nicosia Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (NCCI) has been actively
pursuing the economic, social and cultural development of the city,
as well as the district of Nicosia, offering substantial, multisided
services to its entrepreneurial community members. It promotes
initiatives and encourages communication, acting as a bridging
agent on issues which involve economic activity.
NCCI was established in 1953 and it is associated with the Cyprus
Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It is a private non-profit organization
and operates on the basis of a specific constitution. It is financially
independent, operating in an autonomous manner.
Besides the town and district of Nicosia, the NCCI also covers
geographically the town and district of Kyrenia and the area of
Morphou, both of which have been under Turkish occupation since
1974.
Various stages of development led the NCCI to its present structure,
which enables it:
1. To actively pursue the economic, social, cultural
and regional development of the city, as well as the district of
Nicosia.
2. To offer substantial, multisided services to its entrepreneur
members and to promote solutions to local problems.
3. To attend to its traditional role in resolving the commensurate
problems of the business community of Nicosia on Industry, Trade,
Services and local administration issues.
4. To follow the wider economic issues and initiate actions to
remedy situations to the benefit of its members, through its representatives
at the various bodies. It also constitutes a forum for conveying
the views and demands of its members to the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce
and Industry.
The NCCI strongly believes in capitalizing on the various European
programs and initiatives offered to Cyprus as a full member of
the E.U. for assisting in increasing the cooperation of the business
community. For this purpose it is establishing a non-profit intermediary
establishment that will act as a bridging agent on regional development
projects that will utilize the structural and other aid.
The Chamber is participating in European programs and is placing
great emphasis on awareness of its entrepreneurial members within
the process of harmonization.
